A CHALLENGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL...
Ms. Patty Sobelman
For the past four decades, Pines Montessori School has provided the children and the families of Kingwood, Texas a sense of place. Our 5-acres of land, which we call Infinity Science Park, lives alongside a creek and nature reserve. With our school and our Kingwood community, we built this open space to be a place of play and wonderment. Families, mom’s groups, scouts, birthday parties, family reunions, are all invited to share our backyard, to come after our school day ends, on weekends and on days that school is not in session.
But recently, things have changed dramatically. Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc on our play structures. With support from families and operational funding, we made repairs, but the floods of May 2019 and Tropical Storm Imelda have awakened us to the reality that Houston’s new weather patterns and overdevelopment in Kingwood make us vulnerable to flood again. We need to restructure our landscaping to account for this inevitability or risk closing our property because reparations have become too costly.
Help us raise $100,000 or more to meet the challenge of re-imagining the Pines backyard. Our backyard has been the backyard for Kingwood for over 43 years. Landscape architectural fees, flood plan drawings, and new elevation plans are needed before we can swing on a swing or slide on a slide. Thousands of children have had their childhood grounded here with us and we want to continue to be the place for their children and grandchildren. Do you enjoy the playground? Do your children enjoy the playground? Then please consider making an investment towards its future.
